Hello friends! I am back from a short hiatus with a winter warmer drink, hot chocolate. Have been too busy with all the holiday shopping, decorating the house, baking for friends and family, that I hardly got time to blog. How are you all doing? What are your plans for the Holidays?
We are enjoying the winter here. In this part of the world it is hardly too cold. But this year we are experiencing a considerable drop in the temperature. Sometimes it is raining too. During the nights we are cooped up in the house all warm and cozy and sipping some hot beverage and watching a holiday movie.
I love to have hot chocolate specially this time of the year. It makes me feel so nostalgic. Back home during winter vacation my Mom used to make us a cup of hot cocoa and we used to enjoy while listening to the tunes of Christmas carol! To keep the tradition I too make a cup of rich hot chocolate to keep ourselves warm.
I try to make quite a few variations while following the basic recipe. You may use only chocolate or the cocoa but using both gives a deep rich flavor to the drink. I usually do not add sugar but if you want you may add a spoon or two to make it sweeter. Enjoy making yourself a cup of hot chocolate in this season to stay warm and enjoy the Holidays!
Tips:
You may add some variations to the basic recipe. While heating the milk add a stick of cinnamon to get a cinnamon flavored hot chocolate.If you are using cinnamon then you may dust with some cinnamon powder for garnish instead of cocoa. You may add peppermint chocolate chips to give it a rich peppermint flavor. Here I have used dark chocolate to my drink since I love dark chocolate. You may serve with whipped cream as well.

HOT CHOCOLATE

This is a rich and creamy hot chocolate drink perfect for the cold winter nights!
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup semi- sweet chocolate cut into small cubes
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons sugar optional
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 medium marshmellows for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS

- In a saucepan heat the milk at a medium flame. Add the chocolate cubes and the cocoa powder and whisk until the chocolate melts and everything is well incorporated.
- Taste for sweetness. If you want you may add the sugar according to your taste. Switch off the heat and add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Serve the hot chocolate in cups topped with marshmallows and a little dusting of cocoa. Enjoy!
