I love making homemade jam. It is not only comforting and relaxing to cook and stir the fruits while it thickens to form jam, but I also can control the amount of sugar and ingredients that go into making the jam. The store bought ones are always excessively sweet for our taste and the big jar that comes always sits in the fridge for ages to finish. When I make jam it is always a small batch with the fruits of the season. Today’s recipe is spiced mixed berry jam.
Strawberry jam during summer is very popular in our home and I often gift my friends with a jar or two. They love the taste and always ask for more. This time however I made a spiced mixed berry jam and to give an extra kick to it I spiced it up with fall spices. It was a super hit. The flavors from the mixed berries and the spices blended very well together.
The warm spices of the season and the taste of fresh berries with just the right amount of sweetness is the best combination anyone can think of in a homemade jam. It is simple to make and can be a great gift idea during the holidays. Spread a spoonful on your breakfast toast and savor the fruits of your sweet labor.
Tips:
This homemade jam has no chemical preservatives so always store in the refrigerator. Tightly seal the lid after each use and consume within a month. The berries which I have used here were quite sweet. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste. You may use any berry of your choice.
